Earthing & Surge Protection: Why Wah Cantt Homes Need It

Wah Cantt's mix of established cantonment housing and newer residential development means we see a wide range of electrical conditions on the same street — a decades-old house next to a recently built one, both drawing power off the same fluctuating supply. Earthing and surge protection are two of the least visible parts of a home's electrical system, and also two of the most commonly missing or improperly installed, especially in older Wah Cantt properties.

What earthing actually protects against

Earthing gives fault current a safe path to ground instead of through a person or an appliance. If a wire inside an appliance comes loose and touches its metal casing, a properly earthed circuit sends that stray current straight to ground and trips the breaker instantly. Without earthing, that same fault can leave the appliance's casing live — meaning anyone who touches it while it's plugged in receives a shock. This is one of the simplest safety measures in a home's wiring, and one of the easiest to get wrong if it's installed as a token gesture rather than tested properly.

Is a surge protection device the same as a power strip with surge protection?
